I build the tech so that you can grow your business

Jamie Curle

00 About

I'm a generalist who's increasingly specialising in privacy. I write software, by hand or with AI, run the operational side, and get things done. I'm at my best as the lead technical person on a project, because I can talk to people, lead people as well as orchestrate computers. People tend to hire me because they want an exceptional builder to get a thing done, but not have to keep one on as an employee forever and ever. I also do tree work as it gets me off the chair and out of the office. Physical work is important and it's often the piece that other Fractionals are missing.

01 Working with me

I'm not an agency. When you hire me, you're normally the main focus of my work. I tend to sign work on so that there's only one main focus in any given period. When you email me, I read it and answer it. Most emails get a reply within the hour and 99% the same day. In fact, my current average response time to my customers for the last six months is…

64 minutes 52 seconds

Or you can call me. I always answer during office hours and you'll probably (but not guaranteed) get answered outside of office hours.

02 Software

You get someone who's been building and designing software since 1999, for small businesses and startups in over 40 markets, on tech powering tens of millions in annual revenue. Whatever you're building, there's a good chance I've seen something like it and know where it tends to go wrong.

When I build for you, security testing, monitoring and observability go in from the start whenever the project needs them (most cases), so you hear about problems before your customers do. It won't fall over once the contract ends either: we agree support up front, so you're comfortable with how the project survives beyond the initial engagement.

03 Leadership

When you're tendering for a technical agency or talking to suppliers, I sit on your side of the table, so you're not relying on their word for it. You get someone who knows the right questions to ask and can tell you plainly what's worth paying for.

When your customer sends a security questionnaire, a privacy audit or their legal team's comments, I handle it with you, so the deal doesn't stall in procurement and actually closes.

I get your team working as one unit, so you're not the only one holding it all together.

04 Privacy

Privacy is a legal duty, and it's a minefield. Ideally it goes into your technology from the start (data protection by design and by default), but often it doesn't. Either way, I help you put the right technical and organisational controls in place to limit your exposure if the worst happens. Retrofitting them after a breach or security incident tends to lose you favour with the regulator, so it pays to get ahead of it.

We work out together which controls belong in the code and which belong in how your people work, so you're covered without slowing everyone down.

When people ask what data you hold on them (data subject requests), I build the systems that handle it, so answering them is routine rather than a scramble.

05 Trees

I make technology products for arboriculture and woodland management. I'm also available for hire as a groundworker or a very slow climber. As a groundworker I'm excellent at working with customers and ensuring a safe working site. I'm also not lazy, and I pull my share of the team's work when a job has a hard, awful drag. In the unlikely event the job also has a privacy and software element to it, I'm ideal 🙂

06 Elsewhere

Between contracts, I build my own products with my own idea forge at heem.team.

07 Personal site

I blog about all the things I'm doing on my personal site jamiecurle.com.
